Financial Adviser
Taupo
Providing financial advice must be in my blood. It’s something I’ve been doing professionally for well over 30 years. I finished school and went straight into a role at my local National Bank branch. Then, for 13 years I worked across various areas of banking before becoming an independent mortgage adviser. Along the way I’ve picked up the Level 5 Financial Services qualification and completed numerous banking courses – and I’d like to think a few decades around the sun has armed me with lots of other important skills (albeit not officially recognized).
I get a huge amount of satisfaction from guiding clients through the whole home-buying process. I know that purchasing a home is the biggest financial decision many will ever make. So, I give this task my full dedication. From the moment I meet my new clients, I go out of my way to build a good relationship, provide support and put them at ease. Arranging initial finances, refixing loans, securing top-ups, I take care of it all, and ultimately, I work with them again when they make their next move. My aim is always to build relationships that my clients want to keep for life.
My biggest thrill comes from first home buyers. They come to me not always knowing the intricacies of buying a home, what they can borrow and how the process works. They leave as happy homeowners.
My work/life balance isn’t always ideal, but I strongly believe that you only get out what you put in. When I’m not sitting at my desk or out visiting clients, I love to get out in the fresh air and walk. I do yoga to destress the mind and body (well, that’s the plan anyway), and spending time with my family and friends is also important to me. I find myself drawn to the coastline – beach walks and breathing in the salt air are very therapeutic.
“I highly recommend Prosper. I recently used their service for the second time to buy a new home. Both times Karen Millar was great. She was always happy to answer my questions and I had a lot! She helped me think about protecting my financial future and to look at different options so I could buy a home in an extremely competitive market. Without her help and financial expertise, I am not sure I would have been successful in buying my beautiful new home. The service I received was exceptional and I encourage anyone looking to buy to approach Karen from Prosper for help.”
“Buying a house can be a terrifying experience, and I knew next to nothing about mortgages and how we'd go about getting one. Thankfully, we went with Karen Millar from Prosper and we can't recommend her enough. Right from the first meeting she explained everything clearly and answered all our questions. She was always available to answer our calls and emails. She even came to a couple of house auctions with us, which we appreciated as she was able to answer questions we had right there and then when emotions were running high. We cannot recommend Karen Millar enough.”
“Karen Millar was recommended to me by a friend. I had just separated from my husband and needed to get a mortgage in my own right. Karen was amazing! Karen explained to me very clearly what I needed to do and communication was great. Karen answered all my questions quickly and clearly. The process was easy and straightforward with Karen. After Karen secured my mortgage for me she has since assisted me to extend my credit twice to complete home renovations and buy a boat! Again, each time was extremely straightforward for me as Karen is so knowledgeable in her field. I would not hesitate to and have recommended people to Karen who I know have also had similar experiences to me in Karen’s care.”
“I had a bad experience with a local finance company when trying to purchase my dream bach. I thought that was that but a friend kept telling me to contact Karen to see if she could help. They described her as ‘the oracle”! They weren’t wrong. I visit Karen with my accountant and she told me exactly what I had to do to get my ducks in a row. It was an easy and stress-free process. I have my bach now which is all thanks to Karen as I had given up. Anyone who goes to Karen will not be disappointed."
